Last minute tech gifts: Belkin WeMo

DAILY DOT COM - Christmas is just days away, and if you are looking for some last minute tech gifts you might considered the Belkin WeMo .

Nicknamed, the iPhone home remote, the WeMo is no bigger than your hand.  It plugs into the wall so you can turn off any of your home electronics - no matter where you are.

Think of it as a home automation system, allowing you to link up lights, door locks, and other systems with computerized controls.  But instead of costing thousands of dollars the WeMo costs $49.99.

The WeMo is controlled by an app on your smart phone or tablet and needs a WiFi connection.  The set up is rather simple.  Simply plug in, set up the WeMo network under the settings option on your smart phone, connect to WiFi, then launch the app.

Once set up is complete, you can then tell the WeMo when you want your device to come on, and when to turn off.  So if you left the house in a hurry and aren't sure if you turned off the heater or the curling irons, you can turn it off when you get to work or even from a plane.

As shown in this YouTube video, the WeMo works with just about any of your home electronics: iron, fan, lamp, coffee pot, television, or heater.

You can control as much or as little of your house as you'd like --depending on how many WeMo's you have in your home.

There’s also a motion sensor for the WeMo as well.  The sensor plugs into an outlet and detects motion up to 10 feet away. It retails for $99.99.
