DAILY DOT COM - Twitter has a new video sharing service called Vine. The company unveiled the app in a blog post on Thursday.
Up until now, the primary way for Twitter users to share an image was by posting a picture. Twitter now wants to bring those images to life.
“Posts on Vine are about abbreviation - the shortened form of something larger. They're little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life.” Vine co-founder and general manager Dom Hofman.
Video sharing apps have been done before. Vine is joining the likes of Viddy , Cinemagram and Socialcam , but it’s a little different in that it lets shoot multiple short cuts to make one single 6-second video. The results are digital montages or video clip books that users can share on Twitter or Facebook.
Many in the tech industry have dubbed vine "Instagram for video," and it's perhaps Twitter's challenge to the popular photo-sharing app. Twitter also recently added photo filtering to its apps, so users don't have to go to another service like Instagram.
Vine is available now in the App Store for the iPhone and iPod Touch as a free download.
