DAILY DOT COM - The government uses it, financial institutions use it, and you've seen it in the movies. But now, everyone can protect their personal accounts with iris scanning technology.

The Hoyos Group unveiled the first portable iris-scanning device for consumers. It's called Eye-Lock.

According to a CNN report, the device comes in the form of a USB drive. It's about the size of a standard business card and it weighs 4 ounces.

How It Works?

Once you decide which application you want to "Eye-Lock", you hold the wand-like scanner in front of your eye. The device recognizes your eye, then you are automatically logged in to your password-protected account. No need to enter a password.

It can work on anything from Facebook, to Gmail, or your bank account.

Hoyos claims iris recognition is more secure than fingerprint identification, because it apparently has 2,000 unique points to identify who it belongs to. A fingerprint has about 18.

BioLock

An application in the works for the Android Market called BioLock would allow you access to your phone via facial recognition.

Tech bloggers say BioLock provides an iris scan mode that uses the camera on your phone, to recognize your eye to unlock the phone. No official date on when the app will move to the market, but it could be available in two weeks.
