DAILY DOT COM - If you're one of those parents who cringe at the thought of letting your child play with your pricey iPad, you are in luck.

The world’s largest toy retailer is jumping into the tablet war.  Toys “R” Us is launching its own 7-inch tablet called the Tabeo. The news comes ahead of the holiday season, which can account for up to 40 percent of retailers' annual sales.

The Tabeo ispriced at $149.99 and runs on the latest version of Google's Android operating system, known as "Ice Cream Sandwich.”

The Tabeo also features a Wi-Fi connection, a front facing camera, 50 pre-loaded kid-friendly apps, and extra Internet safety controls.  Parents can limit the amount of time their kids can spend online, set access for specific days of the week or hours of the day, and can get e-mail alerts if their kids find a way around the limitations.

To keep it kid-proof, the Tabeo is encased with a soft bumper to protect it if dropped.  The product became available for online pre-orders Monday and is expected to be in Toys “R” Us stores on October 21st.

More information on the device can be found by clicking here.

Toys R Us sells other electronics including Apple Inc's iPad, but this is its first store-brand tablet. The Tabeo's main competitors include LeapFrog Enterprises' LeapPad and VTech's InnoTab.
