Mid-Year Resolutions

We are half-way through the year already! And, what if I told you that now is a perfect time to make some new resolutions? I know we typically think about the beginning of the year as resolution time, but experts say this mid-point is actually a great opportunity.

Danielle Smith is a Mom and a lifestyle expert. She says there's a new campaign underway right now encouraging us to make small pledges -- resolutions, if you will -- to help us live more fulfilling and rewarding lives. Studies show that a majority of us are not still sticking to or following those New Year's resolutions we set back in January. So, let's try again!

Danielle says, "do something that's easy, but that's not changing everything. Because when we try to change everything, we fail. And, then we feel guilty. But, if we're going with the manageable, then it's a lot easier to do."

Danielle says the key is keeping our resolutions small. As in, you want to lose weight: so instead of changing up your whole diet, maybe just stop buying candy or cookies when you go to the store. As in, you want to exercise every day: so instead of setting up miles and miles to run, maybe just stop taking the elevator. Trade them for the stairs. Or park a little further away so you walk more. Danielle says as we accomplish these small steps, we can add on. And, the whole time we're working toward our big goal of say, losing weight, exercising or being more organized.

We should also be sure to tell other people what we're doing. When we share, we create a support system. And, don't be too hard on yourself. Changing the way we do things can be hard. One thing that may help is get your family involved. If you want to be more organized, for example, get your kids to help you. If they know the big plan, they can get involved and clean up their rooms or the playroom.
