Happy Presidents Day! This is a special day for us here in the United States. By federal law, this day is referred to as Washington's Birthday, but many call it Presidents Day. That's because this the day we set aside to honor and remember the past presidents and their contributions to creating the country we have today. It's a great opportunity to take some time out and talk to our children about our history and have a little fun at the same time. Jayne Yarbrough is a sixth grade teacher at St. Pius X Catholic School. She works with children every day, and says we can use holidays - like this one - as teaching moments.
"It all depends on the age. Start easy with the young, maybe start with the very first President. Explain what the President is and take time to show them our President today," explains Yarbrough.
And, as we do that we can be creative and have some fun! On the website www.kaboose.com , there are all kinds of fun craft projects.
