PENSACOLA, Fla. - Sophier Black rides the bus every day. She needs it because she supports six kids and the bus takes her to her job. "So I can get to work, get everywhere else I need to go. They always been around, I always rode them," Black said.
Well in order to keep these buses rolling. Everyone, even those just passing through the area could be paying for it. Budget shortfalls are forcing the county to consider a three-cent tax on every gallon of gas, at a time, when prices are going up on their own.
Dominique Plant is against the tax, she said, "I don't know if its really fair to tax everyone, for the county bus system, since it is so high and prices are going up."
Three-cents per gallon may not sound like much, but when you consider the average tank is about 15 gallons, that's about 50-cents your pumping into your tank each time you fill up.
For Miles Cabanos, that 50-cents could turn into several hundred dollars over the course of a year. He's a taxi driver.
He said, "Being a taxi driver, definitely hurt me, right now gas is going up quick enough as it is, we don't need any help raising those prices."
The county already levies six-cents a gallon on gas. They'll be considering the tax at the June 11th meeting.
