Mobile, Ala.- - SERVICES WE OFFER
The Mobile County Animal Shelter was established to serve the
citizens of Mobile County. The shelter serves thousands of domestic
animals who are lost, abandoned, neglected or unwanted. The shelter
cares for approximately 7100 animals each year and maintains an
open door policy, accepting all animals.
The animal shelter also provides Animal Control services and
is responsible for impounding stray or lost animals, cruelty
investigations, enforcing local and state ordinances, operation of
the animal shelter, educational programs and the animal adoption
program.
SHELTER SERVICES INCLUDE:
Adoptions – One of the goals of the Mobile County
Animal Control is to find a loving home for our adoptable animals
in our care. Wonderful dogs, puppies, cats and kittens are
available for adoption daily.
Adoption fees include the cost of a set of vaccinations (if
needed) and the boarding of the animal. All animals adopted from
the shelter are eligible for spay or neuter at no additional cost
to the adopter, if services are rendered from the shelter’s
preferred veterinarian (while funds are available). If the adopter
chooses to have their new pet spayed or neutered elsewhere, a $35
voucher is available (while funds are available). Also the adopter
will receive a $10 off coupon from B & B Pet Stop located on
Cottage Hill Road.
Pet Lost and Found – The Animal Shelter receives many lost or abandoned animals each year. If you lose a pet, you may view a photo and listing of animals in our shelter at www.petharbor.com. Every animal received at the shelter is photographed upon receipt.
Animal Bites/Scratches/Rabies Control – Mobile County requires all citizens to have current rabies vaccinations on all dogs and cats. If you are bitten or scratched by any animal including your pet dog or cat, you must contact the Animal Shelter and Health Department immediately.
Cat/Dog Trap Rentals – The Mobile County Animal Control has traps available for the humane trapping and removal of stray or nuisance cats or dogs. Cat or dog traps are available to the public on a first come first serve basis on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no cost for trap rentals but each borrower must sign a rental agreement.
Please be advised of the following:
• All cats or dogs trapped must be turned over
immediately to the Mobile County Animal Control.
• All persons trapping cats must inform the Animal
Control if they know who the owner of the cat is that was trapped.
If you have any questions regarding the humane trapping of
cats or dogs, please call the shelter at (251) 574-3647.
Education Program – If you are interested in a Animal Control Representative visiting your school or organization, please contact LaTonya Matthews at (251) 574-6439.
Volunteer Program – Volunteers are always needed to
provide assistance in carrying out the daily duties at the shelter
such as walking dogs or visiting with the cats and kittens.

you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact LaTonya
Matthews at (251) 574-6439.
