PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A Republican state senator says he's prepared legislation based on the Caylee Anthony case in Florida that would make it a felony to fail to notify authorities promptly that a child is missing or dead.
Sen. Bryan Taylor of Prattville said Monday he's prepared an Alabama version of Florida's "Caylee's Law." He hopes to pass it in the legislative session beginning in February.
The legislation stems from Casey Anthony not reporting her daughter missing for 31 days. Taylor says the case exposed a weakness in the law that needs closing. His bill would make it a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison for a parent or guardian to fail to report a child 12 or younger missing within 24 hours.
