Escambia Co. Democrats make final push

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) - It was a monumental night for Democrats in Escambia County, Fla. Although their candidate did not pull out a win in the panhandle county, President Obama Supporters could not be more thrilled with his win in the overall election.

Starting at 6 p.m., the party gathered at Seville Quarter and watched the votes roll in. Obama got off to a slow start, causing anxiety for supporter Jack Cerone.

“I was holding my breath there for a little while. But once Ohio came in, it was really great,” said Cerone.

Then it happened, Obama was declared the winner and the mood shifted. Supporters like Dave Guthrie were preparing for a long night, but were pleased with the early announcement.

“Who would have thought it would be this early in the night and what a sense of relief,” said Guthrie.

For many in the watch party, this was the culmination of hard work. It was a great feeling for Ellison Bennet who has been working on the President’s reelection for the past two years.

“I can say south Florida really stepped up for President Obama. People really worked hard in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville and even here in Escambia County. Even though the President did not win Escambia County he made a great showing here,” said Bennet.
