CANTONMENT, Fla. (WALA) - The U.S. Senate race from Florida is still weeks away, but one candidate has already visited the Panhandle Thursday, August 23.
Republican Congressman Connie Mack was in Cantonment Thursday. He represents the 14th District in Florida.
Mack is running against Democratic incumbent Senator Bill Nelson .
Mack toured the Marianna Airmotive Corporation facility. It overhauls parts of C-5 cargo aircraft for the Air Force.
Mack said he wanted to visit the facility because one of the important issues in the election will be encouraging the growth of small businesses.
Mack also talked about the work ethic of employees at the facility.
"They'll get up in the morning, they'll go to work, and the next thing you know, they get a new project that comes to the door. And, they get it done with the excitement that they bring. So, I think the people are just amazing," he said.
The Senate candidate also said he would do everything he could to keep military facilities in Florida from being closed.
The Senate election is November 6.
