Today's target is the spotted seatrout, locally referred to as speckled trout or specks. These trout are usually in the one to three pound range.

Fish must be 14 inches to keep in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Trout have a very fast growth rate. Younger trout are often found chasing shrimp in the bays in the spring and early summer.

Larger fish congregate around oyster beds and structure as they spawn.

The world record speck was a 17 pound 7 oz. monster caught on a top water plug on Florida's east coast.
