GULF COAST - Cooler weather finally made it to the Gulf Coast last week. It was the perfect opportunity to head out on a fishing trip with John Edd Thompson.
Captain Bobby Abruscato took us out on a guided trip out of Fowl River. We started out throwing topwater lures early in the morning. Always the funny man, John Edd asked me “If you are using an artificial lure, can you catch an artificial fish?”
But, John Edd was serious as he put the first legal tout of the day in the boat. It was a good fish , hitting a Yozuri crankbait. We continued to fish in East Fowl River around Bellingrath Gardens, with limited success.
Next, we headed south and ran down West Fowl River to try some areas near Grand Bay. We caught a number of fish on live shrimp, fished under a popping cork. This is a great way to catch trout in shallow water. We rig the shrimp 18-14 inches below the cork, with a small split shot and a treble hook.
Captain Bobby Abruscato will teach you fishing secrets at McCoy Outdoor Company Thursday October 8th at McCoy Outdoor Company. This fishing seminar starts at 4:45pm.
Also, in other outdoors news, Delta Waterfowl is hosting their annual fall banquet. Its at 5 Rivers on the Causeway, Thursday October 8th - tickets are available at the door.
