GULF COAST - This time outdoors, we headed out to a local pond during the hot part of the day. The bigger bass really weren’t feeding. But, we did have fun catching a good number of smaller fish on soft plastics. We caught a good number of bass around a pound in size fishing the grassy shoreline.

I used a baby bass zoom fluke. This is how I rig this fluke. I rig it on a 3/0 or 4/0 extra wide gap hook. Simply slide a short piece of the fluke on the hook and slide it into the top of that offset gap. Then bury the hook point into the bait so it runs straight. You want the profile to be nice and straight so it darts around nice and easy through the water.

In outdoor news, Captain Scott Ritter and Captain Bobby Abruscato won this year’s Redfish Cup Tournament in Chalmette, LA. We pre-fished for upcoming tournaments with Scott, featuring his red fishing techniques earlier this summer on Outdoor with Jason Smith and the archived shows are available here on Fox10tv.com.

Scott and Bobby won 40,000 dollars taking first place last weekend and will be featured this weekend on national television. The tournament footage will appear on ESPN 2 this Saturday morning, August 8th at 7:30 am.
