Challenging fishing day

PASCAGOULA, Miss. - On Wednesday, we took the skiff out on the water near Pascagoula. The scenery was fantastic, but the fishing was challenging. We headed out early on a low tide, running down the bayous in search of redfish. There was plenty of wildlife around. I started out with a top water lure early. I had no luck on the trout or reds in the first area I fished.

I saw a good number of reds throughout the morning from my poling platform and from my front deck casting platform. The fish were spooky and not in the eating mood. I missed the first five fish that were interested in my lures on this tough morning. I tried a variety of baits. I had fish break the line, spit the lure out, and altogether miss the lure.

Finally, with 10 minutes left before it was time to go… I hooked a nice red. I saw the fish working in the distance. My cast initially spooked the fish, but he circled back and ate the lure. A nice 22” slot red to end the day. Plenty of good scenery, but tough fishing on this day on the water.
