I headed out early in the morning this week, in search of the speckled trout topwater bite. This is one of the best times of the year to target these popular inshore gamefish.
Working topwater lures is my favorite way to fish early in the morning. The fish were biting good on this shallow grass flat.
I was concerned about the full moon on this particular trip. We were fishing two days after the recent supermoon. On a big full moon, the fish will feed at night. It’s a real bright.
It can make the bite real tricky, but when you are in a good month like May or October, good speckled trout month, sometimes the moon doesn’t affect the fish as much.
After a slower bite and even a Ladyfish or two, it was time to make a move.
We found more fish closer to the marsh. As the sun gets higher in the sky, the surface bite often slows down, but the fish will sure hit soft plastics under a popping cork, I’ll show you part two of our trip next week.
