The Mobile Yacht Club is hosting a sailing camp this summer. Kids learn a respect for the water, and they learn that sailing can be a safe and fun sport.

Ben Posey is a lead instructor for the camp. He says they accommodate all skill levels.

“Kids learn how to rig a sail boat, how to get it going from shore, and how to do some of the basic maneuvers so they can get from point A to point B,” said Posey.

Students learn all about sailing terminology and rigging so they can communicate on the water. The whole camp is a fantastic team building exercise. Not only are these kids learning valuable knowledge about the technical aspects of sailing, but they are also learning a lot about boating safety as well.

The kids also get comfortable being in the water. The groups even perform capsize drills.

The Mobile Yacht Club has hosted this camp for over 30 years. Kids ages 8-18 can attend and it lasts through August 3. For more information check out http://www.mobilebaysailingschool.com/ .
