The redfish go after bait on the bank

On Wednesday, I headed out with local guide Captain Bobby Abruscato, in search of redfish. We found some nice fish despite cold temperatures.

Our redfish pattern came from fowl River, where we used Gulp Crazy Legs Jerk shads on ¼ oz No Slack Tackle lead heads. Bobby explained why the fish were in this area.

“This bank is basically in a turn in the river channel. I think what happens is a lot of bait gets deposited on the bank. The shell makes it easier for the fish to feed because the bottom is hard and the fish and the bait cant really burrow down in there. So, they start relating to something like that and I think what happens is you’ll get fish, particularly redfish, as long as there is bait.”

The fish were found in water that was a chilly 53 degrees. We worked the lures slow, bouncing them along the bottom.

We also caught some trout and we’ll show you that footage next week.
