GULF COAST, Ala. - Chalmette, Louisiana is an area that was really hit hard by hurricane Katrina but it's starting to come back. We are heading down to Breton Sound Marina in Hopedale, Louisiana and go out and try to catch some speckle trout this morning and then we're going to target some redfish in the middle of the day. It's going to be a good sight fishing day as long as the wind doesn't get up a whole lot.
I think the wind will be out of the northeast around ten maybe ten knots early and it'll start backing off and start switching around straight out of the east or even east southeast late in the afternoon, high pressure right over the area. Not the best day to catch speckle trout, but it's the best day you could ever imagine to catch redfish. We do good on the trout too, trout are weird but sometimes they don't like that high pressure.
Redfish will be fired up. It's the first real good cold snap of the year, we've had an above average October, temperature wise the first 15 days, and this is big time cold front, this is the third day after the cold front, it's a rule thumb you fish three days after the front comes through, you going to have lighter winds, clear skies, still have some sun, nice weather.
One of the things about getting up early to go fishing, if we were an hour later, we'd still catch plenty of redfish probably miss the trout. It is best to just get up early.
