November is a great time to target specks and reds in our inshore locations. I headed out on the causeway, straight into a strong north wind.
The breezy conditions make fishing challenging, but you can still catch large numbers of fish using a controlled drift technique. All you have to do is cast the bait up wind, and up current. Then, hold onto the rod and let the boat do the work, instead of reeling the bait back in.
I caught them using an H&H Sparkle Beetle rigged on a ¼ oz lead head Sometimes they will just hit that rod sitting in the rod holder. Another thing I do is after I get the bait out there a full cast, I will put the reel in free spool and let it out there a little deeper.
If you are Thanksgiving speckled trout fishing, try drifting root beer sparkle beetles on a windy horrible day. If you adjust to the conditions and use right technique, and you can still catch fish on a craziest of days and craziest of weather.
