Stalking redfish in Decemeber

GULF COAST - Our local waters are very pretty places on those sunny and cool days in December. I took advantage of the blue skies to hunt for reds in the shallows with Captain Andrew Carter. The goal is to actually spot the fish first and then cast to him with artificial bait. It’s a challenging and rewarding way to spend a morning.

We found a few fish early in the clearer waters in the backs of bayous. We also found some fish patrolling the flats in the open areas. Because the fish were up in the super shallow water, it was time to go into stealth mode. I like to take a push pole and slip along quietly instead of spooking them with a trolling motor. The guy in the back gets to fish less, but you can still help to located fish for the caster on the bow. It requires some teamwork between the guy on the stick and the fisherman in the front.

And there is no better way to end your day of fishing, than putting the catch right on the grill.
