BCCA to present 5th annual Star Search

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WALA) - Local high-schoolers are preparing to show their talent chops during the fifth-annual Baldwin Star Search on Feb. 22.

At the same time, organizers said, the competition shows the students that they “don’t need drugs or alcohol in order to have fun.”

The competition will be held on February 22 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Orange Beach Event Center at The Wharf.

The Baldwin County Community Alliance is presenting the countywide drug-free event after high schools across the area held their own talent competitions among soloists, bands and instrumental acts.

Instead of charging admission to the event, students will sign an alcohol and drug-free pledge card, which will be used as admittance as well as a voucher for a ticket to win door prizes from local businesses.

Studio10 host Cherish Lombard and WABD’s Q-Tip will serve as the emcees of the event.

The top three competition winners will receive a vacation trip, cash cards, gift cards and other donated items from local businesses, and all participants will receive a prize pack.

Paige Rucker, the state director of the non-profit organization Project Rebound said, “Project Rebound is very excited to sponsor this event for the third year.  We have been working with the Baldwin County school system by providing one-on-one counseling to teachers and students as well as providing group counseling to classrooms. Our goal is to help rebuild our families and address the mental health needs of our children and our teachers. This event is an excellent way to educate our youth on how they can pledge to live a drug-free lifestyle.”
