PENSACOLA, Fla. - -       The Pensacola Sports Association (PSA) is excited to announce some additions to the high school senior all-star series - men’s and women’s basketball is being added to the series, which includes football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball.
“This series of games is an important part of what the PSA is about,” commented Ray Palmer, Executive Director of the PSA. “For us, it’s not about wins and losses, rather recognizing these athletes from the three county area in a fun and memorable atmosphere is what’s important.”
Since its creation with the inaugural football game in 2004, over 1,300 of the finest athletes from Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties have showcased their skills for college scouts, family and classmates and built friendships with former on-field rivals. The success of these games has proven itself with 60 athletes from the 2009/2010 games continuing their sport at the college or professional level.
"SUBWAY® restaurant's local Chairman Tim Wheat, commenting on the SUBWAY® sponsorship of the five-sport PSA All-Star Series said, "The 128 local SUBWAY® restaurants in Northwest Florida and South Alabama have come on board as the title sponsor this year and are joined by Andrews Institute and Academy Sports to take the Pensacola Sports Association All-star Series to the next level. SUBWAY® is known worldwide as a healthy and active brand. We are proud to support our local high school athletes in their pursuit of excellence.”
There are currently three players in the NFL that have competed in our Football game and many baseball players in the minor leagues. Escambia High grad, University of Alabama standout, and recent Sports Illustrated cover feature Trent Richardson was the MVP of the 2008 Football All-Star Game.
The Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, Fla. is the official sports medicine provider for the all-star series events and will provide a certified athletic trainer (ATC) at each sport practice and game. The Andrews Institute currently provides ATCs year-round at all high schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Academy Sports + Outdoors will be the official Fan Contest Sponsor of the games. Before, during, or after each game, at least two contestants will be selected from the audience to participate in an on-field/court promotion for the opportunity to win up to $200 in Academy Sports + Outdoors gift cards.
“We are thrilled to have Subway and Academy Sports + Outdoors join the PSA and The Andrews Institute to support this series and the kids,” added Palmer. “With their support, we can take these games to the next level and provide the kids a quality, fun, and safe experience they’ll remember the rest of their lives.”
The Pensacola Sports Association is one of the oldest sports associations in the United States, beginning in 1954. Today the PSA manages or assists in numerous events a year throughout the Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa county areas. Events include a high school all-star series, flag football, 5K-15K runs, marathons, triathlons, bicycle races, collegiate national championships, and annual awards and scholarships banquets to name a few. The PSA is dedicated to building a better community through sports.
