FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WALA) - The Senior Bowl players took the field January 21 for the first day of practice. Once practice was over, some fans got a chance to get some autographs.
The South team held practice in Fairhope. It was Alabama defensive back Robert Lester’s first time playing on that field since he played ball for Foley High School.
"I’ve waited my whole life to play in this game, and now it’s coming true," said Lester.
Players turned on their A-game to impress the NFL scouts. Landry Jones of Oklahoma University said it can be a little nerve-racking.
"It can be a little daunting seeing all of the big NFL scouts. And you want to play your best, and you don't want to make any mistakes and things like that, but at the end of the day it’s football,” said Landry.
The scouts weren’t the only ones keeping a close eye on the guys. After practice, fans lined up to get autographs.
Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban drew quite the crowd.
Alabama and Auburn players were popular, but the other players weren’t left out.
"It’s been pretty cool just seeing all sorts of different teams coming out here and practicing and all that,” said one fan.
Players said it’s equally as cool to meet their fans.
"It’s great to be home and inspiring these guys and doing the best they can do on the field and in the classroom,” said Lester.
A select group of players will sign autographs after every practice.
