MIAMI (WALA) - Alabama fans are heading to South Florida and it won’t be long before the streets of Miami are filled with Crimson and White.
President of the Alabama Alumni chapter in Miami Gavin Churchill said there’s been an overwhelming response with phone calls, text messages and e-mails from Alabama fans.
“We’ve got hundreds upon hundreds wanting to do a viewing party. I had one massive viewing party set but the numbers keep coming so I’ve had to break up in zones throughout Miami to accommodate for all the fans coming down,” said Churchill.
Churchill said he expects about 150 people per party. He said if there’s overflow, he’s going to ask the Fort Lauderdale chapter to help out.
“Anytime you have an out of state chapter, it’s a road game. And now to have one in your own backyard, it’s awesome to have one here,” said Churchill.
He’s not the only one preparing for the Tide. Some vendors were setting up shop Thursday morning in downtown Miami.
“We’re just setting up for both teams. We’re looking forward to visitors and fans coming from all over the country routing for Notre Dame and Alabama,” said Jeanise Monroe.
Monroe said they’re expecting thousands of fans to come through leading up and going into Monday’s BCS National Championship game and they have a lot of work to do before then.
Thursday, Jan. 3, the staff was unpacking boxes and organizing apparel.
Churchill said he expects most of the Alabama fans will arrive Thursday night and Friday.
