MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Alabama offensive lineman DJ Fluker and safety Robert Lester have been teammates for four years, beginning at Foley High School.
"Playing for Foley was my first time playing football," Lester. "And there's times when I put on that Alabama uniform, if I'm not looking at it, I'm thinking that I'm in navy and white. Deep in my heart, I'll always be a Lion. But to go home and spend time in my hometown, it always feels good."
For Lester, Foley is home.
For DJ, it was just one stop on his journey. Fluker and his family fled New Orleans prior to Katrina. He spent time in Biloxi and Mobile after the storm, and landed on the Eastern Shore for his senior season.
"It's kind of like home," Fluker said. "They took me in and made me into the player I am now. They taught me a whole lot of maturity I'll say from going from high school to college. I can't wait to go back."
Different men with very different paths to Tuscaloosa. But they share a goal, bringing Bama back-to-back national championships
