MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Friday night, The Mobile BayBears won their fourth Southern League Championship in franchise history and second straight outright title.
The BayBears trumped the Jackson Generals with a 1-0 victory to close out the Southern League Championship Series, three games to one.
In 2011, Mobile defeated the Tennessee Smokies in four games to win the championship. After going 6-2 in the playoffs, the BayBears finished the 2012 season with an overall record 75-73.
Jon Griffin scored the only run of the game with a solo homer off Generals LHP Anthony Fernanadez to lead off the top of the third inning. BayBears RHP Mike Bolsinger threw seven shutout innings, limiting the Generals to just three hits and struck out five.
After Bolsinger exited, LHP Eury De La Rosa recorded five of the final six outs, striking out three batters. With two outs in the ninth, and a runner on first, RHP Bo Shultz's first pitch to Mike Zunino was popped up to shallow right field where Alfredo Marte made the catch for the final out of the game.
Matt Davidson was named 2012 Southern League Championship Series, MVP. Davidson recorded three hits in the series against the Generals, one of which was a two-run walk off home run in game three that gave the BayBears a 4-2 win in 10 innings.
