Daphne's Jenkins builds brotherhood on all-star team

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WALA) - Hidden under a mess of various logos from schools across the state, you can make out a familiar Daphne Trojan, and a familiar face: Trey Jenkins.  Alabama teammates have decorated their uniforms to represent not just their school, but the Heart of Dixie.

"We just switch stickers because we all came from different schools so we thought we’ll all just put different stickers on our helmets, we thought it was pretty funny,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins believes the "sticker swapping" also helps establish a brotherhood amongst the team.

At Jubilee Stadium, you probably saw Jenkins playing more outside linebacker.

That won’t be the case in the all-star game, where versatility is as important as your skill set.  Jenkins will be spending most- or all- of his time in the secondary.

“It’s really about the same thing playing corner, safety," Jenkins said.  "They move us all around to different positions because we can play different positions.  So, it’s just a different look.”

Daphne’s season ended in the second round of the playoffs this year to Opelika, a team that went all the way to the state championship.  So for this last game of his high school years, Jenkins has no intention of losing.

“It will be pretty good to end on a high note," Jenkins said.  "These guys out here, they’re all good players.  So it’s just a blessing coming out here and just playing with these guys.”

Jenkins is a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama-Birmingham, but said he still has some thinking to do on his future.

The Alabama/Mississippi All-Star game is set for Saturday at noon in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
