MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Steve Kittrell's has coached his last game as manager of the University of South Alabama's baseball team. The Jaguars lost to Troy University 10-7 at Stanky Field on Saturday, May 21.
Kittrell spent the last 28 years at South Alabama after a one year stint at Spring Hill College in 1983. In February 2009, Kittrell became just the 50th manager in all of college baseball, 37th in Division 1-A, to reach the 1,000 win plateau. He led the Jaguars to 18 NCAA Tournament appearances and 10 Sun Belt Championships.
Kittrell has amassed 1,084 wins during his coaching career and has brought the Jaguars within one win of reaching the College World Series six times.
He will be replaced by Mark Calvi, former pitching coach at the University of South Carolina.
