ALABAMA (WALA) - In this week's Game of the Week, the Spanish Fort Toros take on the Vigor Wolves for the second time this season. In the first round, the Wolves came out on top at Spanish Fort. The Toros are now looking for victory in Vigor's house.
For four quarters, Vigor and Spanish Fort slugged it out in a defensive battle - one of the closest games of the season for each team. To say it was a low scoring affair puts it lightly.
The Wolves came out on top, beating the Toros 7-0 on the Hill and vaulting Vigor to number two in the region.
"The first time we played Vigor, I think we were a little unsure of who we were, but now, after those first to playoff games, I think we're confident about what we've got. I think we've got a good shot this time," said Spanish Fort linebacker Matt Hall.
This time, however, the fight is in Vigor's house.
"We want to go to Prichard and beat them because they beat us here," said Toros defensive end Demarco Montgomery. "We're trying to get a little revenge back - redemption."
The Toros will face a Wolves team without one of its most dominant players, defensive end Darius Philon, who is still recovering from a knee injury. But the Wolves are still loaded.
"Vigor just keeps putting good players on the field," said Spanish Fort Head Coach Mark Freeman. "The guys they've got that played last week are guys taht could start for anybody."
However, last season, Vigor was knocked out of the playoffs in this very round.
"We live and die every single play because we were this close last year, and we let it slip away," said Vigor nose guard Demarcus Hives. "We're not trying to feel that same feeling again. It leaves a nasty taste in your mouth, and we don't want to have that no more."
To move on, they'll have to get through one of their biggest rivals and last year's state champs.
"They know how to win, man. And they like to win. It's part of them now, and they're going to go out there and fight to do that," said Vigor Head Coach Kerry Stevenson.
