Folks enjoy fun in the sun before game

MIAMI (WALA) - The BCS National Championship may still be four days away, but the presence of Alabama fans be seen in Miami, specifically on the beach.

An Alabama Beach bash was held on Miami Beach for friends and family of the team, Thursday, Jan 3.

During the party, a team of sand sculptors carved out "Roll Tide" and the BCS logo on piles of sand.

"It brings a little south Florida flavor to the visiting teams here and it's probably something they don't see a whole lot of in Alabama," said Sand Sculpter, John May.

The intricate design took several hours to make. The sculptors the carving takes a whole lot of patience.

"You got to pack the sand real tight. You got to get it wet and then you carve it," said Josh Clyde.

The sculptors said as Alabama fans walk by, they are quick to show their appreciation for the design.

"Roll tide! We get that all morning long. I think the people that are here visiting from Alabama get a kick out of it," said May.

FOX10 also met a family, originally from Mobile, riding along the beach.

“It’s been great. This is their first time to south beach. We live about an hour north of here and we just wanted them to see south beach so we came down here for the week,” said Claude Ware.

The family moved from Mobile to South Florida and couldn’t be more excited to attend the game Monday, representing the Crimson Tide.  Ware’s says it’s all about carrying on the Alabama tradition.

“You’re just born into it, and we play football our entire life. And, wherever you go, your just always an Alabama fan,” said Ware. 

The official BCS events will begin to kick off this upcoming weekend. Tailgating parties will begin to set-up and folks will start to plan where they will watch the game, with the big day arrives.
