Fairhope football players: Once a teammate, always a teammate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WALA) - You don’t have to look far to see that familiar Fairhope flag on the field at all-star practice. John-Patrick Sherling and Nate Andrews are lining up together again, but this time both are on defense.

That can be an awkward transition for anyone.  Andrews, typically an offensive weapon for the Pirates, has been asked to play corner back.

“Wherever they need me, that’s where I’m going to play," Andrews said.  "I’m not used to it, but I’m going to play corner.  It’s pretty hard but I think I’ll get it down by Saturday.”

He’s not the only Pirate showing versatility.  Sherling, a perennial linebacker, will be playing some full-back, clearing holes for those dynamic Bama runners.

“I like to hit people, so that’s what I’m in there to do," Sherling said.

They may be hours away from home playing positions foreign to them, but the two teammates have each other, and both look forward to the challenges ahead.

“It’s a great honor, a great honor," Andrews said.  "I’m very happy for myself and John-Patrick.”

“They’re all the best people I’ve played against, so it’s pretty awesome," Sherling said.
