Jags win home opener

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - South Alabama outscored William Carey by 18 in the second half and won its home opener, 82-64, on Wednesday night at the Mitchell Center.

Mychal Ammons recorded his third straight double-double with 19 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Augustine Rubit fell just short with 20 points -- 16 in the first half -- and nine boards.

USA(2-0) went 0-for-6 from 3-point land in the first half but made six after halftime -- four from Xavier Roberson and two from Antoine Allen.

The Jags play Tennessee State in the Coaches vs Cancer Tournament in Atlanta on Sunday. Their next home game is Dec. 4 against New Mexico St.
