Mark Barron arrested by Mobile Police

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - UPDATE: 4:12 p.m. Mobile Police released more information about Mark Barron’s arrest Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the scene of an accident around 5 a.m. at I-10 and Michigan Avenue. The vehicles were heavily damaged, but no one was injured and one of the drivers had left the scene of the accident.

When the officer arrived, Mark Barron was on the scene. He told the officer he had been at a nightclub on Airport Boulevard, when a person he only knew as “Bull” took his car without permission.

During the investigation, the officer determined that the driver was not “Bull,” but Barron’s cousin Jeremy Lang, and Lang had been the driver to leave the scene of the accident.

When the officer asked Barron about the situation again, Barron continued to insist the driver of the car was “Bull.”

The officer said he gave Barron multiple chances to tell the truth. The officer explained the consequences for Barron not telling the truth. Barron still refused to change his story.

Barron is charged with hindering prosecution 2nd degree, which is a Class A misdemeanor and can carry a jail sentence of up to one year.

The officer says Lang will be issued a ticket for leaving the scene of the accident, and have to go to court.

12:36 p.m. Mobile native and starter for the Crimson Tide finds himself in trouble with the law Sunday. Mobile police arrested Mark Cortez Barron at 7:28 a.m.

Barron posted bond minutes later, shortly after 8 o'clock.

No details on why officers arrested Barron. He is charged with hindering prosecution 2nd degree. His court date is set for April 18th, two days after the A-Day game.

Barron is a junior and wears the number four jersey for the Crimson Tide.  Barron announced in January that he will stay at Bama to play his senior year.
