TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) - Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox and South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg have made a friendly wager for the BCS National Championship game.

The two mayors have agreed that if the Crimson Tide win, Buttigieg will make a donation to the City of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund and give Maddox a box of chocolates from South Bend Chocolate Co.

If the Notre Dame Fighting Irish win, Maddox will make a donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Joseph County and give Buttigieg a slab of ribs from Dreamland.

"Alabama and Notre Dame have a storied tradition in football," Maddox said. "Tuscaloosa and South Bend are alike in their love for their respective teams, and the people of our cities are lifted when our teams do well. A BCS championship game appearance puts our cities in a national spotlight and showcases the resiliency and strength of our communities."

Both mayors agree that it’s going to be a great, intense game. Buttigieg has the Irish winning by three, while Maddox predicts an Alabama win, 17‐6.

The Crimson Tide and Fighting Irish kick off in Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013.
