BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama coach Nick Saban wouldn't mind playing a ninth Southeastern Conference game every season.
Saban says with Texas A&M and Missouri giving the SEC 14 members, "you've almost got to play more games to get a true indication of who's the best team in the league."
He says other SEC coaches had reasons for disliking that format, either because it makes it harder to become bowl eligible or because they already have tough nonconference games like Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech and South Carolina-Clemson.
The Crimson Tide coach says he's also hoping the SEC can come up with a format where players get a chance to face every team during their careers.
The SEC has adopted a 6-1-1 schedule with teams likely to play six division games with one cross-division rival.
