In 2000, Mike Gottfried, a former collegiate coach and ESPN college football analyst had the vision to create Team Focus, a comprehensive community outreach program aimed at providing mentors and positive role models to young men without a father figure in their lives.
Gottfried’s vision and drive for the program is based on his own life experiences, "Growing up without a father around and knowing what that feels like, I have a desire to provide a place for young men to come and be encouraged, motivated and challenged.”
Team Focus has grown from one summer camp in 2001 with approximately 50 young men to a year-round Wisdom Center in Mobile, Ala., 11 summer camps across the country and over 1,200 young men. These camps aim to teach academics, athletics, social skills and values. In addition, the first national Team Focus Rally for all team members was held in June 2006 in Mobile.
“I really appreciate Nick Saban putting his arms around Team Focus,” said Gottfried. “We currently serve over 1,200 boys without fathers and we want to increase the number to 6,000 plus. We appreciate Nick and Terry’s help and the help of everyone in the Mobile area who attends “A Night of Champions” and supports Team Focus.”
