MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Freshman Tony Mitchell recorded a career-high 34 points and 16 rebounds to lead North Texas past South Alabama 78-73 in overtime on Thursday night.

Mitchell shot 78.5 percent (11 of 14) from the field, 81.1 percent (9 of 11) from the free throw line and knocked down all three of his 3-point attempts.

South Alabama (8-5, 0-2 Sun Belt Conference) led 65-63 with 19 seconds remaining in regulation but a Chris Jones jumper with three seconds left pushed the game into overtime.

Mitchell took over during the extra period, scoring seven points in overtime. His three free throws with 30 seconds left would seal the victory.

Alzee Williams scored 15 points and Jones added 12 for the Mean Green (9-7, 2-1).

Despite outrebounding North Texas 43-41, South Alabama was outscored 40-24 in the paint by the visiting Mean Green.
