MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Greg Gantt scored 14 points and Florida Atlantic defeated South Alabama 74-64 on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The Owls (21-9, 13-3 Sun Belt Conference), who had already clinched the league's regular-season title, will go into the conference tournament on three consecutive wins and a first-round bye.
Florida Atlantic's Brett Royster scored 13 points and Alex Tucker added 12 by going 4 of 4 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.
South Alabama got 19 points and 12 rebounds from Augustine Rubit, but neither led nor tied. The Jaguars (12-15, 6-10) pulled within one point on four occasions, the last time coming when Allyn Cooks, who had 16 points, hit a 3-pointer to pull within 52-51 with 8:27 left.
But the Owls answered with a 14-4 spurt to put the game out of reach as Gantt scored on a layup with 3:55 left, making it 66-55.
