AUBURN, Ala. (WALA) - Thanks in part to two rushing touchdowns and an interception in the end zone by Fred Rich, Tanner (14-0) defeated Washington County (13-2) 42-14 in the 2A state championship.

The Rattlers defense put up two goal-line stands in the game, and got off the field on eight out of ten Bulldog third down conversions.

This state championship birth was the farthest Washington County has ever made it in the playoffs, and head coach Chris Wilson says his boys showed a tremendous amount of heart just to make it this far.

“They’ve had a great run, a great season, I can’t be more proud of them," Wilson said.  "I can’t be more proud of the way they played.  Tanner just made more plays than we did.  They did a great job, made it really difficult for us, but it was a great football game and I’m really proud of my guys.”
