AUBURN, Ala. (WALA) - UMS-Wright Bulldog Troy Dixon rushed for three touchdowns of 50 yards or more en route to the Class 4A State Championship against Oneonta on Friday, Dec. 7.
Dixon also won MVP.
Dixon's 232 rushing yards and three long touchdowns led UMS-Wright to a 42-14 over top-ranked Oneonta in the AHSAA Class 4A state championship game Friday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Dixon's first score was a 52-yarder to give the Bulldogs (13-2) a 14-7 lead. Oneonta (14-1) came back with Tyler Smith's 5-yard run to tie the game with 2:53 remaining in the first half. Dixon, the game's MVP, scored on a 61-yarder 51 seconds later to put UMS-Wright ahead again.
Bulldogs quarterback Gunner Roach threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Dixon's brother, T.J., with 6:13 remaining in the third quarter to extend the lead to 28-14. Linebacker KJ Traywick intercepted a screen pass and returned it for a 19-yard score with 5:58 left.
Troy Dixon's final run of the game was a 74-yard touchdown with 3:03 remaining.
This is UMS-Wright's second state championship since 2008.
Head Coach Terry Curtis is a graduate of Auburn University, and has now won a state championship at his alma mater.
Oneonta has gone to the state championship two years in a row and has lost both times. In 2011 they lost to the Jackson Aggies.
