MOBILE, Ala. - This year, tablets and mobile devices are some most likely gifts  found under the Christmas tree. But there are some safety tips you should know about your latest gadgets, particularly if you have an Android device. Mcafee internet security expert, Robert Siciliano, says you need to make sure your device is secure.

He says, "Mcafee labs has discovered that the Android operating system, which is prevalent on tablets and mobile devices is the most hacked mobile operating system. There are thousands and thousands of viruses targeting Androids because it's an open sourced system that bad guys have access to the original code."

Siciliano also says PC, Mac and mobile malware is on the rise, especially with phishing text messages and malicious mobile websites.

He adds, "When you have an Android operating system this means you have access to a lot of additional applications that aren't approved by the Google play store. Google play approves applications but the third party stores often have malicious applications that record your key strokes and install spyware on your device."

If you're in the gift returning mood, keep in mind: gift receipts will make your transaction much easier, and some stores won't accept returns without one. Not all purchases made online can be returned at a brick-and-mortar store. Some gift cards can't be returned, or won't amount to a cash refund.  If items were purchased at a store's outlet, they may not be returnable.

Also, if an item comes with a free or bonus gift, that usually has to be returned too.

That's your Daily Tech.
