Education Credit Tax Filing Date

MOBILE, Ala. - If you're planning to claim an education credit on your taxes, Valentine's Day is your date to file.

February 14th is the first day the IRS will accept returns with form 8863, which is the Education Credit form. when the filing season kicked off on January 30th, the IRS was still updating the system that processes those forms. But, it will be up and running by Valentine's Day to accept the American Opportunity Tax Credit and the Lifetime Learning Credit.

A lawsuit filed in federal court in Chicago claims workers should be paid overtime when they access emails or answer work-related telephone calls when they're off-duty. The lawyer on the case says the issue impacts workers everywhere, and could mean millions of dollars in back pay.
