The 55th Annual Distinguished Young Women National Finals are happening in Mobile this weekend! The girls will be participating in a number of events around the Gulf Coast as they prepare for the big scholarship competition.
Katye Brock of Tennessee was named the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2011 during the 54th National Finals in Mobile, Alabama on June 25, 2011.
Katye is a student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville where she is pursuing a degree in International Studies. As the winner of the 2011 DYW program, Katye won more than 50,000 in college scholarships and a gold medallion symbolizing her achievements within the classroom and extracurricular activities.
She graduated from Tullahoma High School in Tullahoma, Tennessee. She was president of the National Honor Society, founder and president of the nonprofit organization R.A.I.S.E., and involved in musical theater. Through her role with R.A.I.S.E. (Raising Awareness in Schools Everywhere), Katye encouraged her peers to learn about the children of Northern Uganda and their struggles. She organized fundraisers and book drives benefiting the children and grew the student organization to the second largest in her high school.
Katye has served as the national representative of Distinguished Young Women for the past year. This Saturday night - she will relinquish that role to another deserving young woman from the class of 2012.
Community Night will be held Wednesday, June 27 at 6: 30 pm at the Mobile Civic Center Theater, and you can get a sneak peak of the Distinguished Young Women Class of 2012 as they perform selections from the 55th National Finals Program.
Then the 55th National Finals Preliminaries will be held on Thursday, June 28 at 7: 00 pm at the Mobile Civic Center Theater. Cheer the ladies on as they show off their talents, fitness, and self- expression.
The 55th National Finals Preliminaries Night Two will be held Friday, June 29 at 7: 00 pm at the Mobile Civic Center Theater. That night, you can once again cheer on the Distinguished Young Women Class of 2012 as they compete in talent, fitness, and self- expression.
The 55th National Finals Night is Saturday, June 30 at 7: 00 pm at the Mobile Civic Center Theater. That night, the top ten contestants will compete to win the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America 2012!
