Local high school students will take a pledge to stay drug and alcohol free at the 5th Annual Baldwin Star Search! The event, which is sponsored by Project Rebound and presented by Baldwin County Community Alliance, will be held on February 22, 2013 from 7:00p.m. – 9:00p.m. at the Orange Beach Event Center at The Wharf.
It's an evening of some of the best local high school talent! Talent competitions were held at high schools in Baldwin County, and the winners from each school get the opportunity to perform in this countywide drug-free talent show. Talent for the event will include soloists, bands, and instrumental acts.
As with all of the BCCA drug-free events, high school students will sign alcohol and drug-free pledge cards at their schools prior to the event, or the night of the event. High school students will then present their drug-free pledge card as their free admission ticket, and in turn, they'll each be given a ticket that can be used for chances to win door prizes from local businesses.
This family fun event is free and is open to students, parents, and community members in Baldwin County. The event is set up to let show high school students know they don't need alcohol or drugs to have fun.
Cherish Lombard from WALA FOX10 and Studio10 and QTip from 97-5 WABD will be the emcees for the event again this year. The top three acts will receive grand prizes which will include a trip, cash cards, gift cards, and other items donated from local businesses. Each contestant who performs in the Baldwin Star Search will receive a prize pack.
Project Rebound will be sponsoring the event for the third year. Project Rebound works closely with the Baldwin County school system to provide one-on-one counseling to teachers and students, and group counseling in classrooms. The goal of Project Rebound is to help rebuild families and address the mental health needs of children and teachers.
Project Rebound is a nonprofit organization funded by a $12 million dollar grant from BP to the State Mental Health Department. The organization is designed to assist in coastal recovery as a result of the 2010 Deep Water Horizon/BP oil spill. Project Rebound teams are also trained to help survivors of the April 2011 tornadoes that have been displaced and may be living in Baldwin or Mobile counties.
If someone needs financial, emotional or personal assistance, Project Rebound can help. Counselors are available 24/7 by calling 1-800-639-REBOUND (7326) or by visiting the Project Rebound website at www.ProjectRebound.org .
The Baldwin County Community Alliance operates through Baldwin County Mental Health Center, Prevention Services. The BCCA is comprised of community agencies that meet regularly to discuss and implement strategies that target underage drinking and drug use among area youth.
