BALDWIN CO., Ala. (WALA) - The fourth annual Baldwin Star Search will be held at the Wharf’s Convention Center on March 16, 2012 from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. The Baldwin Star Search is a talent competition in which all area high schools are asked to have a talent show where the top two winners from their school advance to perform at this event.
Over the past three years, talent has included everything from soloists and bands, to steppers, guitarists and even a drum acts. This event is open to students, parents, and community members as a drug free family fun activity.
High school students will sign drug-free pledge cards and be given drug-free wristbands as their free admission to the event. As students enter the event they will be given a ticket that will then be used for their chance to win door prizes during the event.
The emcees for the event this year will be Cherish Lombard with FOX10 and Q-Tip with 104.1 WABD.
Video screens will be utilized during to show 30-second winning commercials for 2010/2011 and to highlight the event sponsor will be displayed throughout the event. The Alabama Alcohol Beverage Control Board will be giving short presentation during intermission at the event.
The top three winning acts will receive grand prizes which may include a vacation trip, cash cards, and local business gift cards. All contestants will receive prize packs with items from WALA/WANA and WMXC.
Baldwin County Community Alliance operates through Baldwin County Mental Health Center, Prevention Services. The Baldwin County Community Alliance is comprised of community agencies that meet regularly to discuss and implement strategies to target underage drinking and drug use among area youth. The coalition’s main focus for this year has been to decrease the access and availability of alcohol to minors.
