BARC presents $30 vouchers to spay or neuter your cat

Baldwin County Humane Society

It's so important to spay or neuter your pets. That's why, in an effort to reduce the spring kitten explosion, the Baldwin County Humane Society is offering $30 vouchers for you to spay or neuter your cats through the Spring Kitten Prevention Program.

The program was set up to assist Baldwin County residents, regardless of income, who have adopted or rescued a homeless animal. There’s no limit on how many vouchers individuals can buy.

Vouchers will be available through March 31, 2011, or whenever 500 have been sold.

Cats average three litters a year, and each spring the kitten explosion overloads local shelters resulting in euthanasias. Animal Control Statistics for the US in 2009 showed that it costs an average of over $270 to house, kill and dispose of an animal. This program will save taxpayers money by decreasing euthanasias at local shelters.

SKP vouchers must be redeemed at any of these 24 participating veterinary clinics by April 30, 2011: Bay Minette Animal Clinic and Biles Animal Hospital in Bay Minette; Lillian Veterinary Hospital; Daphne Animal Hospital, Jubilee Pet Hospital, Lake Forest Animal Clinic and Veterinary Medical Center in Daphne; Loxley Animal Clinic and Rehm Animal Clinic at Timber Run in Loxley; Elberta Animal Hospital; Bay Animal Clinic North in Montrose; All Health Pet Care, Animal Wellness Center, Bay Animal Clinic Downtown, Eastern Shore Pet Hospital and Rankin Veterinary Clinic in Fairhope; Central Baldwin Vet Clinic in Robertsdale; Advanced Animal Care, Dykes Veterinary Clinic and Happy Acres Veterinary in Foley; Bay Animal Clinic North and Spanish Fort Animal Clinic in Spanish Fort; Canal Road Animal Hospital in Orange Beach and Baldwin Animal Clinic in Summerdale.

The SKP program is funded by the generosity of donors and through foundations and other grantors who share the goal of bringing an end to pet overpopulation.

To purchase SKP vouchers, you can visit the BARC! office at 306 Magnolia Ave in Fairhope Monday thru Thursday, from 9:00am - 4:00pm, or you can download an application at www.BaldwinHumane.org then mail a $30 money order. Additionally, SKP vouchers can be purchased at the Lillian Veterinary Clinic for use there.

For more information, please call the office at 251-928-4585.
