It will be "play ball" and "give blood" at the Mobile BayBears game tonight (Monday, June 4) as Remington College-Mobile Campus holds a 3 Lives blood drive at Hank Aaron Stadium from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Anyone who donates blood at this event gets a complimentary ticket to that night's game against the Birmingham Barons.
Remington College is sponsoring the BayBears "Every Monday Matters" promotion for the 2012 season. The team holds a donation drive for local nonprofits at every Monday home game. Remington College-Mobile Campus steps up to the plate on June 4 to collect blood for LifeSouth Community Blood Centers.
Remington College has partnered with America 's Blood Centers (ABC) and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America (SCDAA) to raise awareness of the need for minority blood donors. The 3 Lives effort has collected more than 5,000 pints of blood since it began and ABC named Remington College as its 2011 National Partner of the Year.
According to the SCDAA, African American blood donors provide blood with unique antigens that is vital for people battling sickle cell and other life-threatening diseases. For patients requiring frequent transfusions, it's best for them to receive blood that closely matches their own.
Singer AJ Green, joined us on Studio10. He's a spokesperson for the 3 Lives campaign and has been battling sickle cell disease for most of his life. His treatment includes monthly blood transfusions. Green has performed for two presidents and shared the stage with Elton John, Celine Dion and Jennifer Hudson, will sing the national anthem prior to the game.
Remington College-Mobile Campus is located at 828 Downtowner Loop West in Mobile .
