Make your way down to the Gulf Coast Exploreum and meet Sean Casey the man who created the film, Tornado Alley.
Chief Meteorologist Jason Smith will be there on Saturday and Michael White will be there on Sunday. Tickets are still available at the Exploreum box office and we hope to see you there!
Here's more details from the Exploreum website:
An event of epic proportions is whirling into the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center at the end of June. The action and celebrity packed two-day event, dubbed Catastrophe Weekend, is scheduled to hit on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24.
At the center of the vortex will be Sean Casey, the star of the IMAX film Tornado Alley, with his formidable 22-foot long, custom built Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV2). Just off the roads from chasing this tornado season’s most fearsome storms, Sean Casey will personally introduce his IMAX film Tornado Alley, and interact with Exploreum guests, allowing them to connect with the science and technologies of severe weather research, up close and in person.
Budding storm chasers and self-proclaimed “weather geeks” of all ages can enter to win one of eighteen coveted spots to ride alongside Sean Casey in the TIV2 during Catastrophe Weekend. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Exploreum’s Box Office leading up to Catastrophe Weekend for $2.00 each, or $10.00 for six.
Area emergency, rescue and first responders, including the Alabama Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross with their twenty-two foot Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), the Mobile Police Department, and Mobile Fire and Rescue Department will be on site to teach the public about natural disaster safety and preparedness, as well as spark interest in careers in their fields.
Rounding out the weekend will be three special showings of Hurricane on the Bayou. The film carries audiences on a journey deep into the soul-stirring heart of Louisiana — before, during and after the unprecedented devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
As Catastrophe Weekend approaches, residents of the Gulf Coast community are encouraged to secure their event admission tickets in advance either online or at the Exploreum’s Box Office. Tickets to Catastrophe Weekend, which include admission to the event on Saturday or Sunday, a viewing of either Tornado Alley, or Hurricane on the Bayou, access to the Strange Matter traveling exhibition and access to all permanent galleries is $18.00 for adults, $17.00 for youth and seniors, and $15.50 for children.
