Celebrate New Year's Eve in Mobile!

Published : Wednesday, 19 Dec 2012, 12:41 PM CST

Enjoy fireworks, music, fun and a 600-lb electronic  MoonPie this New Year’s Eve in downtown Mobile! There will be a Resolution Wall where you can share your goals for the New Year in the courtyard of the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel.

You can hear great music in Bienville Square throughout the evening. From 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., you'll hear the Jon Miller Band featuring Tanya Madison. Then from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Hotwire will take the stage.

But Bienville Square isn't the only place you'll hear great music in downtown Mobile on New Year's Eve. Stop the Austal Mardi Gras Park Stage at Government and Royal Streets from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. to see the Perfect Image Show and Band. Elmo and the Bluesmen will be playing on the same stage from 8:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., and they'll be followed by Grayson Capps from 9:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

The Main Stage will be located at St. Joseph and St. Francis Streets. At 8:45 p.m., there will be an opening ceremony and remarks by Mobile’s elected officials. From 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., you can listen to the sounds of Wet Willie. Then The Commodores will play into 2013.

There will be a New Year’s Eve Parade that starts at 7:30 p.m. The parade will wind through downtown Mobile, and will feature some of Mobile’s best Mardi Gras floats and marching bands.

From 9:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m., you can enjoy "A New Year’s Eve Night to Remember", a fabulous New Year’s Eve ball featuring a great menu, cash bar, and the Mobile Big Band Society. Proceeds will benefit McKemie Place, a 501c3 non-profit homeless shelter for women. Tickets are $50 per person or $500 per table, and available online at mckemieplace.org .

A light show begins at 11:30 p.m. on top of the RSA Battle House Tower and the Renaissance Riverview Plaza. Then at 11:59 p.m., the countdown to 2013 begins as the giant MoonPie descends from atop the RSA BankTrust Building and lights up Mobile's skyline at the stroke of midnight. There will be a fireworks show to help properly welcome in the New Year.

The Commodores performance will conclude around 12:30 am, and you're invited to check out downtown bars, restaurants, and hotels and continue celebrating the New Year.
